{"id":1359,"date":"2017-03-13T14:36:06","date_gmt":"2017-03-13T14:36:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=1359"},"modified":"2017-03-13T14:36:06","modified_gmt":"2017-03-13T14:36:06","slug":"tstc-cyber-security-students-form-campus-first-student-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=1359","title":{"rendered":"TSTC Cyber Security Students Form Campus\u2019 First Student Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(FORT BEND) &#8211; Inspired by the most common computer error, the 404 Computer Club was formed making it the first official student club at Texas State Technical College in Fort Bend County.<\/p>\n<p>The 404 Computer Club was founded by four Cyber Security Technology students placing it under the program\u2019s umbrella.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted a creative name but something (computer code) everyone is familiar with,\u201d said Isaias Martinez, club president. \u201cAnd the 404 error is the most common and recognized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 404 Error Page is the page displayed when someone is browsing a website and a page cannot be found.<a href=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/TSTC_CyberSecurityTechClub.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1360 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/TSTC_CyberSecurityTechClub-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"404 Computer Club Officers\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/TSTC_CyberSecurityTechClub-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/TSTC_CyberSecurityTechClub-768x549.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/TSTC_CyberSecurityTechClub-1024x731.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/TSTC_CyberSecurityTechClub-624x446.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Martinez and the club\u2019s executive board; Vice President Brett McFee, Treasurer Westin Chauvin and Historian Michael Leung said they have big plans for the club.<\/p>\n<p>With some community service under their belts, the club leaders hope to continue doing projects that will enhance Rosenberg and the surrounding communities in addition to combining technology with their activities and projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of our primary goals as a club is to reinforce the skills we learn in the classroom,\u201d said McFee. \u201cCurrently we\u2019re looking into our options and into what we can and cannot do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A few of the ideas the club\u2019s officers hope to begin soon are; a computer repair program, a replica arcade game cabinet for the college in which they will perform all computer programming, and guest speakers series featuring industry leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to work hard to achieve these things,\u201d said McFee. \u201cAnd once our membership really grows, we\u2019ll be able to reach our goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McFee said this is only the club\u2019s first active semester so they are encouraging students in Cyber Security Technology to join and get involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year we\u2019re going to establish ourselves as an organization among our peers,\u201d said Martinez. \u201cOur goal is to grow membership and make it a great experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cyber Security Technology is also offered at TSTC\u2019s Marshall, North Texas, Waco and Williamson County campuses offering certificate and associate degree tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for Summer and Fall 2017 begins April 3.
