{"id":1812,"date":"2017-07-11T18:00:43","date_gmt":"2017-07-11T18:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=1812"},"modified":"2017-07-11T22:30:24","modified_gmt":"2017-07-11T22:30:24","slug":"tstc-receives-donation-from-longview-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=1812","title":{"rendered":"TSTC Receives Donation from Longview Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(MARSHALL) \u2013 Texas State Technical College recently received a valuable in-kind donation from a Longview business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In June the Airgas Store donated welding wire valued at more than $47,000. The store, one of more than 60 operated by Airgas in Texas, specializes in welding equipment and rentals, specialty gases and fire safety equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The wiring will be used primarily by welding students and is expected to last two years, said Danny Nixon, an instructor in TSTC\u2019s Computer Aided Manufacturing program in Marshall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA lot of times when you get deep into the fiscal year, money gets tight,\u201d Nixon said. \u201cThis is a huge gift.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was the first time Airgas had made a gift to TSTC, said Jeffrey White, an Airgas account manager in Longview.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis gives the students the opportunity to learn different welding processes they may come across once they graduate,\u201d White said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The gifting process started with White and an Airgas welding process specialist visiting TSTC in the winter to assess the Welding Technology program because of a request to buy new welding machines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI remember thinking how great it was that these students were getting a hands-on approach to welding and learning skills that would help them out immediately after graduation,\u201d White said. \u201cWe ended by finding the right machines for them and started discussing other projects that we might be able to help them with.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">White said the business had excess welding wiring and he felt it could be put to good to use by TSTC\u2019s welding students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOnce approved, I got with Danny Nixon and gave him the list of different types of wire we had and asked if they could use it,\u201d White said. \u201cTurns out they could use everything on the list, so we loaded up our delivery truck and delivered it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Airgas is based in Radnor, Pennsylvania.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more information on Texas State Technical College, go to tstc.edu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Marshall-Welding-Student-generic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1813\" src=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Marshall-Welding-Student-generic-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Marshall Welding Student generic\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Marshall-Welding-Student-generic-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Marshall-Welding-Student-generic-624x407.jpg 624w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Marshall-Welding-Student-generic.jpg 752w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(MARSHALL) \u2013 Texas State Technical College recently received a valuable in-kind donation from a Longview business.
