{"id":1844,"date":"2017-07-21T16:15:57","date_gmt":"2017-07-21T16:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=1844"},"modified":"2017-07-21T20:48:19","modified_gmt":"2017-07-21T20:48:19","slug":"tstc-student-qa-with-ryan-williams-of-waxahachie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=1844","title":{"rendered":"TSTC Student Q&#038;A with Ryan Williams of Waxahachie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(RED OAK) \u2013 Ryan Williams, 27, of Waxahachie is a Logistics Technology major at Texas State Technical College in North Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Williams was raised in Longview and is a 2009 graduate of East Texas Christian School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you find out about TSTC in North Texas?\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was going to classes (at TSTC) in Marshall but I wanted to change majors.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What got you interested in studying Logistics Technology?\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019ve always worked in a distribution aspect of the jobs I\u2019ve had in the past. I thought I would do well in the program. So far I am enjoying the classes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you do better with hands-on learning or book learning?\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI do a mix of both, but I usually like the hands-on training so I can see where I mess up and improve from that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What advice would you give to students considering your major or going to TSTC?\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cStick with the work and don\u2019t be afraid to ask questions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you enjoy doing away from classes and studying?\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI usually like reading fantasy and science fiction books. I\u2019m a big nerd. I like playing video games or board games.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the fields that Logistics Technology graduates can pursue include manufacturing, technical services or government. Graduates can pursue professional certifications from the International Society of Logistics or the American Production and Inventory Control Society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The United States had more than 130,000 logistician jobs in 2014, with the figure expected to rise by 2,500 positions through 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas had more than 13,000 logisticians in May 2016, with a majority centered in The Woodlands \u2013 Houston \u2013 Sugar Land area. The Dallas \u2013 Plano \u2013 Irving area had more than 3,200 positions, with an average mean wage of $79,300.
