{"id":1979,"date":"2017-08-28T21:43:32","date_gmt":"2017-08-28T21:43:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=1979"},"modified":"2017-08-28T21:43:32","modified_gmt":"2017-08-28T21:43:32","slug":"tstc-employee-spotlight-jesse-hernandez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=1979","title":{"rendered":"TSTC Employee Spotlight: Jesse Hernandez"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(HARLINGEN) &#8211; Jesse Hernandez is known by faculty and staff at Texas State Technical College as the \u201cgo-to technician\u201d around campus and July\u2019s Employee Spotlight honoree.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis recognition really brightens my day,\u201d said Hernandez. \u201cI didn\u2019t know people paid attention to my work. This makes everything I do worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez is TSTC\u2019s Video Network Technician for the Office of Information Technology and finds himself traveling almost monthly to TSTC\u2019s sister campuses across the state.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old manages the audio and visual set ups and installations on and off campus for classrooms, offices, commencement ceremonies and other special events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTSTC is my second home and I try my best to keep everything working and everyone happy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether, the San Benito native, who is also a TSTC alumnus, has worked at TSTC for nearly eight years, counting his time as a work study and student worker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always knew TSTC was the place for me,\u201d said Hernandez. \u201cOnce I had my foot in the door I stayed and thankfully I\u2019ve been able to grow with the college.\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/TSTCJesseHernandez.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1980 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/TSTCJesseHernandez-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"Jesse Hernandez\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/TSTCJesseHernandez-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/TSTCJesseHernandez-768x549.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/TSTCJesseHernandez-1024x731.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/TSTCJesseHernandez-624x446.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>During his time as a student pursuing a certificate and associate degree in Computer System Management Technology, Hernandez worked at the media center, in online learning as a test proctor and in the department\u2019s computer lab and finally in his current position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking on campus while a student was a great experience,\u201d he said. \u201cI got to practice what I learned in the classroom on real-world situations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez credits a lot of his success to two of his top mentors, former TSTC Media Center Coordinator and now lab assistant for Computer Systems Management Technology Joe Gonzalez and TSTC Computer Maintenance Instructor Elizabeth Martinez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoe always made me figure things out before telling me. I never liked it, but honestly, it paid off in the long run and I\u2019m better for it,\u201d said Hernandez. \u201cAnd Elizabeth always took her time explaining things to me when I needed help. I learned a lot from her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just as Hernandez can\u2019t say enough about TSTC, TSTC faculty and staff can\u2019t say enough about him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJesse always greets you with a smile whether he\u2019s assisting you with a technical issue or just passing you in the hallway,\u201d read one comment on his Employee Spotlight certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Another comment read, \u201cJesse is always quick to respond whether by phone, email or in person. He is our go-to technician when we need any type of technical assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, \u201cAt the Challenger Center he is our go-to for all of our audio and video needs, including our space shuttle. Without him, our space missions would be, for lack of better word, grounded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the future, Hernandez hopes to pursue another associate degree at TSTC in Computer Networking and Security Technology and also a bachelor\u2019s degree from one of four universities offered at TSTC\u2019s University Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal is to continue growing professionally and with TSTC. It\u2019s a great place to work and I love the friends I have made here,\u201d said Hernandez.<\/p>\n<p>He also added that he would like to send a big thank you and a hug to those who recognized his work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf anyone needs help, they know they can call me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>TSTC prides itself on being a great place to work.
