{"id":2036,"date":"2017-09-13T17:00:23","date_gmt":"2017-09-13T17:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2036"},"modified":"2017-09-13T21:43:27","modified_gmt":"2017-09-13T21:43:27","slug":"tstc-student-qa-with-jordan-harris-of-tyler","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2036","title":{"rendered":"TSTC Student Q&#038;A with Jordan Harris of Tyler"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(WACO) \u2013 Jordan Harris, 26, of Tyler is working toward associate degrees in cyber security and digital forensic specialist at Texas State Technical College in Waco.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beginning this fall the digital forensic specialist degree was changed to a two-semester advanced technical certificate, but Harris is still able to finish the associate degree program. He is scheduled to graduate in December from TSTC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harris is a 2010 graduate of Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse in Smith County.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What got you interested in studying technology?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI have always had an interest in computers. Digital forensics is the main degree I want to get a career in. The act of searching for something that may or may not be there is interesting to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you learn about TSTC?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI learned about it through family members that know people who graduated from here and have had success.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you like to do when you are not in classes or studying?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI\u2019m normally playing fantasy-based, role-playing video games or riding my mountain bike at Cameron Park.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What advice would you give to high school students?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI would tell them to start college early, as soon as graduating from high school. You should have a basic idea of your major and go with something that makes you happy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What are your plans after graduating from TSTC?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI would like to go into the U.S. Air Force and get certifications and do things in the Department of Defense.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the cyber security fields that are expected to grow through 2024 include networks and systems administration and information security analysis.
