The day aims to improve the lives of others, and Texas State Technical College hosted the event for students to give back to the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TSTC was able to donate 53 dog toys to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a win-win, as students were treated to a service project and food and we provided a valuable service to a community partner,\u201d said TSTC Provost Edgar Padilla. \u201cWe are proud to have that component as part of our mission at TSTC.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adele Clinton, TSTC\u2019s Executive Director of Student Life, said students have shown an interest in service projects over the last few years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThey love it,\u201d Clinton said. \u201cWhen the students engage in community service, they\u2019re learning communication skills, teamwork skills, conflict resolution, and they\u2019re getting TSTC\u2019s name out to communities who may not know that we\u2019re right in their backyards. It\u2019s also teaching students that volunteerism has been so much fun.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TSTC began participating in Make a Difference Day at the Harlingen campus in 2008 but has recently added the volunteer projects at its other campuses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSince I became a state lead and TSTC became one, we\u2019ve taken it statewide and our numbers have increased exponentially ever since,\u201d Clinton said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Padilla said he hopes to continue these types of projects at the school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAt TSTC, we understand that our success depends on the support and viability of our local communities,\u201d said Padilla. \u201cWe believe in service and understand that we\u2019re part of a business community that is vibrant and interconnected.
