{"id":2205,"date":"2017-11-07T15:54:06","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T15:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2205"},"modified":"2017-11-07T15:54:06","modified_gmt":"2017-11-07T15:54:06","slug":"tstc-automotive-technology-receives-large-donation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2205","title":{"rendered":"TSTC Automotive Technology Receives Large Donation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(HARLINGEN) &#8211; Texas State Technical College Automotive Technology programs at Harlingen, Waco and Sweetwater recently received large donations from San Antonio\u2019s CarFest and TSTC industry partner Jasper Engines and Transmissions.<\/p>\n<p>The donation from CarFest totaled $30,000 and was divided equally among the three campuses and will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the TSTC Foundation for student scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>Jasper donated another $2,500 to each campus for the purchase of automotive engines and transmissions to be used for industrial training.<\/p>\n<p>Combined, Automotive Technology at TSTC\u2019s Harlingen campus received $12,500.<\/p>\n<p>TSTC Automotive Technology and Auto Collision Technology Lead Instructor Adan Gutierrez said these recent contributions are not only great for the program, but also for its students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so grateful to have received these donations,\u201d said Gutierrez. \u201cIt helps us train more students and gives us the opportunity to give them access to the newest technologies.\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/TSTCAutoTech-GroupPic-5x7-72dpi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2210 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/TSTCAutoTech-GroupPic-5x7-72dpi-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"TSTC Automotive Technology\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/TSTCAutoTech-GroupPic-5x7-72dpi-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/TSTCAutoTech-GroupPic-5x7-72dpi.jpg 504w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>TSTC\u2019s Waco campus is a second-year sponsor of San Antonio\u2019s CarFest, an event organized to help repair vehicles for local families in need and dedicated to building a culture of continuous skill building, quality and pride in the automotive industry.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty and students from TSTC\u2019s Technical Drag Racing Association and Automotive SkillsUSA Club arrive at the event ready and willing to get under the hood, diagnose the problem, complete repairs and return the car to the family ready to drive.<\/p>\n<p>TSTC Automotive programs Statewide Department Chair Rudy Cervantez said this is the second year they have received a donation of this magnitude from CarFest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an organization that likes to give back to its community,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd they definitely give back to our students in more ways than one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that CarFest gives the students a hands-on, real-world experience and an opportunity to speak with industry professionals in addition to the donations that help pay for tuition, books and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really excited for next year\u2019s CarFest in April,\u201d said Cervantez. \u201cOur Waco team will be there and we\u2019re encouraging our other campuses to join us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gutierrez said he is working diligently to get his students from TSTC\u2019s Harlingen campus to San Antonio in April for the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is great experience for our students,\u201d said Gutierrez. \u201cAnd our goal is to get our students there and have them experience this event first hand and to give them the opportunity to give back to an organization that has given them so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information on TSTC\u2019s Automotive programs, visit tstc.edu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(HARLINGEN) &#8211; Texas State Technical College Automotive Technology programs at Harlingen, Waco and Sweetwater recently received large donations from San Antonio\u2019s CarFest and TSTC industry partner Jasper Engines and Transmissions.
