{"id":2353,"date":"2017-12-14T10:51:57","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T10:51:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2353"},"modified":"2017-12-14T16:31:28","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T16:31:28","slug":"tstc-welding-program-receives-donation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2353","title":{"rendered":"TSTC Welding Program Receives Donation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(MARSHALL) \u2013 The Welding Technology program at Texas State Technical College recently received equipment from the family of a Hallsville resident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The in-kind donation included three oxygen bottles, three acetylene bottles, three torch rigs, two cutting torch buggies, a toolbox, a welding machine and three worktables. The equipment was valued at $2,000, according to information from The TSTC Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The equipment belonged to Hallsville business owner Hugh Lee Morris II. \u00a0Morris, who was born in Cuero, died at age 86 on Aug. 26 in Longview.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHis daughter and son wanted to give back to the program by donating his equipment to the welding program in honor of their father so it could be used to let others learn about the welding trade,\u201d said Daniel Nixon, an instructor in TSTC\u2019s Computer Aided Manufacturing program in Marshall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morris\u2019 daughter, Rebecca Freer of Fort Worth, said her father took welding classes at the Marshall campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe was kind of a pack rat,\u201d she said. \u201cWe wanted to declutter. It was just faster and easier and much more beneficial to donate to some people who could use it than let it rust and sit there or try to sell it.
