{"id":2796,"date":"2018-04-20T08:00:08","date_gmt":"2018-04-20T08:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2796"},"modified":"2018-04-19T14:18:34","modified_gmt":"2018-04-19T14:18:34","slug":"chancellors-excellence-award-chris-martin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2796","title":{"rendered":"Chancellor\u2019s Excellence Award \u2013 Chris Martin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(FORT BEND) &#8211; Although Chris Martin has only been with Texas State Technical College in Fort Bend County for just over a year, he has already made a favorable impression and recently earned the 2018 Chancellor\u2019s Excellence Award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore this, I was not familiar with the award or the scope of it,\u201d said Martin, business relationship manager for TSTC. \u201cSo when people started congratulating me and making a big deal, I was surprised to learn what it meant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chancellor\u2019s Excellence Award is given by TSTC Chancellor Mike Reeser to select faculty and staff for their distinguished service and dedication to the college, their communities and their state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese teammates were nominated by their peers, recommended by their provosts and vice chancellors, and chosen as faculty and staff who model excellence in our college every day,\u201d said Reeser. \u201cTheir caring and dedicated efforts embolden us all to make a difference in the success of our teams and the lives of our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Born in Houston and raised in Fairfield east of Waco, Martin graduated with a bachelor\u2019s degree in economics from the University of Houston in 2000 and a master\u2019s degree in business administration from Houston Baptist University in 2015.<a href=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Chris-Martin-ChancellorsAward-5x7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2797 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Chris-Martin-ChancellorsAward-5x7-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Chancellor Excellence Award Chris Martin\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Chris-Martin-ChancellorsAward-5x7-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Chris-Martin-ChancellorsAward-5x7-768x1075.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Chris-Martin-ChancellorsAward-5x7-731x1024.jpg 731w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Chris-Martin-ChancellorsAward-5x7-624x874.jpg 624w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Chris-Martin-ChancellorsAward-5x7.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He arrived at TSTC with an extensive background and experience in economic development, real estate and health care. He first heard of TSTC while serving on the Rosenberg Development Corporation, where he still serves as president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the initiatives for the Rosenberg Development Corporation was to bring TSTC to our county,\u201d said Martin. \u201cI was instantly impressed with the college and the services and opportunities it would offer to our area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin was working as a real estate agent and owned a small business consulting group when he saw the job posting on TSTC\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy passion is economic development and workforce training. I love all facets of the area,\u201d said Martin. \u201cSo I saw this as a great opportunity for me and I went for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As TSTC\u2019s business relationship manager in Fort Bend County, Martin establishes business relationships for the campus with the goal of securing workforce training opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the work he does for TSTC, Martin maintains his real estate license, serves on the board of the local library and museum, is a committee member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and serves as a swim meet director for his son\u2019s competitive swim team.<\/p>\n<p>Loree Scott, TSTC\u2019s senior executive director for workforce training, said Martin has a servant\u2019s heart, which is an inspiration to many.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChris was instrumental during the tragic aftermath of Hurricane Harvey,\u201d said Scott. \u201cHe volunteered countless hours with the TSTC food pantry, located and assisted TSTC Fort Bend County families with cleanup and rescue, offered his home to our TSTC families who were displaced, and found resources such as gas in the days following the storm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott added, \u201cIt is Chris\u2019 willingness to go above and beyond in everything he does that makes him so deserving of this award.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin said he is thankful to those who nominated him for this distinguished award and is happy to represent TSTC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s humbling to know that my work is being noticed, and I feel so appreciated,\u201d he said. \u201cNever have I received an award like this.
