{"id":2888,"date":"2018-05-04T20:24:38","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T20:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2888"},"modified":"2018-05-04T20:24:38","modified_gmt":"2018-05-04T20:24:38","slug":"tstc-to-host-first-commencement-in-hutto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=2888","title":{"rendered":"TSTC to Host First Commencement in Hutto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC_0755.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2889\" src=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC_0755-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC_0755-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC_0755-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC_0755-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC_0755-624x936.jpg 624w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC_0755.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>(HUTTO) &#8211; When Quinton Hooper walks the stage next Friday at Texas State Technical College\u2019s first commencement ceremony in Hutto, he\u2019ll be joining a long line of technical workers in his family.<\/p>\n<p>Hooper, an Industrial Maintenance student, previously studied under the Digital Forensics program at the Waco campus but decided to change programs to something a little more familiar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of my family are mechanics,\u201d Hooper said. \u201cIt\u2019s a little closer to what the rest of the family is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While he enjoyed his time at TSTC in Waco, Hooper enjoys the smaller class sizes in Williamson County.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere, there are more one-on-one classes,\u201d he said. \u201cYou get more time with the teachers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Industrial Maintenance instructor Lance Antilley said he has admired Hooper\u2019s hard work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have known Quinton for the past 16 months,\u201d he said. \u201cHe is an outstanding student in all respects. Quinton has proven that through hard work, follow-through and teamwork, he can accomplish tasks in a courteous and timely manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Currently interviewing for jobs, Hooper hopes to find a position where he can travel with work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like traveling, going to different countries,\u201d he said. \u201cI hope to get into a company that I\u2019m able to travel around and not stay in one place too long. I\u2019d like to visit Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hooper, a native of Maxwell, Texas, is one of 20 students eligible to walk the stage at the 6:30 p.m. ceremony on May 11 at the East Williamson County Higher Education Center.<\/p>\n<p>Hooper advises those considering TSTC not to bite off more than they can chew.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t get in over your head,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you go into a class and you don\u2019t know a lot about it, study more in that class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>TSTC\u2019s Chancellor, Mike Reeser, will speak at commencement, as well as Robb Misso, president and CEO of Dynamic Manufacturing Solutions in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>TSTC is registering now for the fall semester.
