{"id":3527,"date":"2018-10-29T08:00:21","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T08:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=3527"},"modified":"2018-10-26T18:58:48","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T18:58:48","slug":"tstc-industry-job-fair-helps-fill-state-workforce-shortage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=3527","title":{"rendered":"TSTC Industry Job Fair helps fill state workforce shortage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(HARLINGEN) &#8211; More than 50 employers from across the state gathered at Texas State Technical College\u2019s Cultural Arts Center for the Fall 2018 Industry Job Fair, ready to hire TSTC students and graduates for good-paying, in-demand positions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been one of our most-attended job fairs yet,\u201d said Viviana Espinosa, TSTC director of Talent Management and Career Services. \u201cEmployers said they are excited to have been able to reach so many students to help fill the gaps in their workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 500 TSTC students and alumni were dressed to impress at the fair, many with resumes in hand, applying for positions and completing on-site interviews.<\/p>\n<p>Espinosa said the main objective during Industry Job Fair is to connect students and employers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndustry representatives are looking to fill positions with skilled employees, and many look at our students first because of the training they receive in the classroom. They\u2019re ready to work,\u201d said Espinosa. \u201cAnd for our students, it\u2019s about graduating with that dream job in hand. And at Industry Job Fair, we\u2019re able to meet both student and industry needs.\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/TSTC-Industry-Job-Fair-FA18-72dpi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3528 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/TSTC-Industry-Job-Fair-FA18-72dpi-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"TSTC Industry Job Fair\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/TSTC-Industry-Job-Fair-FA18-72dpi-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/TSTC-Industry-Job-Fair-FA18-72dpi.jpg 504w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Carlos Gomez, a regional human resources manager with Martin Sprocket &amp; Gear, said they have seen a lot of success from hiring graduates of TSTC\u2019s Precision Machining Technology program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe machinists and machine programmers we\u2019re able to hire from TSTC help us meet the needs of our customers,\u201d said Gomez. \u201cEvery TSTC student we have hired is now filling key roles within our company. We have even created new positions for TSTC graduates because of the impressive skill sets they have acquired through TSTC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gomez also said partnering with technical colleges like TSTC helps them fill a shortage in their workforce, especially with an increased number of similar companies opening and competing for skilled workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUtilizing technical schools like TSTC has been a major factor in being able to hire more skilled employees.
