{"id":3673,"date":"2018-12-07T20:59:54","date_gmt":"2018-12-07T20:59:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=3673"},"modified":"2019-04-23T10:23:50","modified_gmt":"2019-04-23T16:23:50","slug":"tstc-in-williamson-county-holds-fall-commencement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=3673","title":{"rendered":"TSTC in East Williamson County Holds Fall Commencement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(HUTTO) &#8211; Fifty graduates received certificates and associate degrees at Texas State Technical College\u2019s Fall 2018 Commencement held Friday, Dec. 7, at the East Williamson County Higher Education Center in Hutto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former Texas Rep. Larry Gonzales was the guest speaker and talked about the graduates\u2019 decision to pursue a technical education and their importance to the Texas economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the graduates already have jobs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stuart G. McLennan IV, 38, of Georgetown received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Cyber Security and began work earlier this year as a TSTC instructor. Although still a student, \u00a0McLennan taught some of the same cyber security classes he had already taken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt will be nice to be done with the student side and done with exams and instead give them,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McLennan earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in computer programming several years ago but had difficulty finding work in the Killeen area. He decided to go back to college to expand his knowledge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI have always been interested in the computer area,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some graduates are continuing their job search.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joseph Hartman, 20, of Jarrell received a certificate in Cyber Security. He said he was inspired to study the field after doing research while a student at Jarrell High School, where he graduated in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cComing here was a lot cheaper than going to a big university,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His future plans are to pursue an associate degree, earn industry certifications and look for jobs in the Austin area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI really want to start making money,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TSTC has more than 900 students graduating this fall across the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more information on Texas State Technical College, go to tstc.edu.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(HUTTO) &#8211; Fifty graduates received certificates and associate degrees at Texas State Technical College\u2019s Fall 2018 Commencement held Friday, Dec. 7, at the East Williamson County Higher Education Center in Hutto.
