{"id":651,"date":"2016-08-15T08:00:04","date_gmt":"2016-08-15T08:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=651"},"modified":"2016-08-08T19:19:50","modified_gmt":"2016-08-08T19:19:50","slug":"tstc-employee-highlight-romana-medina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/?p=651","title":{"rendered":"TSTC Employee Highlight: Romana Medina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Romana Medina may have been raised in a small Texas town, but this student recruiter is helping Texas State Technical College students in Fort Bend County achieve their big city dreams.<\/p>\n<p>Being a student recruiter requires a lot of communication with students who need assistance in deciding what it is they want to study.\u00a0 Medina says that this one-on-one communication makes a great difference in a student\u2019s academic career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I\u2019m speaking with a student, I always try to find their interests,\u201d said the El Campo resident.\u00a0 \u201cI give them as much information as I can about the programs and I constantly remind them that where there\u2019s a will, there\u2019s a way.\u00a0 You can always do something that you set your mind to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Medina says that the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/RomanaMedina_FBEmployeeHighlight.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-652 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/RomanaMedina_FBEmployeeHighlight-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"Romana Medina\" width=\"310\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/RomanaMedina_FBEmployeeHighlight-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/RomanaMedina_FBEmployeeHighlight-768x549.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/RomanaMedina_FBEmployeeHighlight-1024x731.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.tstc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/RomanaMedina_FBEmployeeHighlight-624x446.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/><\/a>payoff for what her career entails is always worth the effort and time put into each student.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always see students coming in more and more, and students enjoy being heard and listened to.\u00a0 There are even some students that come in on a daily basis.\u00a0 That\u2019s what makes everything worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Medina\u2019s admirable work ethic stems from her watching her parents work just as hard for her while she was growing up, and she is eager to continue working just as hard for not only her career, but her higher education, as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy parents were always working to provide everything I needed to go to college.\u00a0 I want to get my bachelor\u2019s in Bilingual Education very soon.\u00a0 I have a strong background in my Hispanic culture, so why not put it to work and help other students and families be just as successful, too?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her personal experience with TSTC goes beyond her employment, and she looks forward to what her career with the college will bring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have two brothers who graduated from here, so I\u2019ve seen student success firsthand.\u00a0 They are doing very well and love their new careers as business owners,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking and being a part of this brand new campus is so much fun.\u00a0 I plan on staying with TSTC as long as I can.\u00a0 There are so many great support systems out there, and one thing I can say about TSTC is that you will find more than a support system here; you will find a family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new TSTC campus in Fort Bend County is on track to open for classes beginning August 29.<\/p>\n<p>Fall registration is currently underway.\u00a0 To register or apply, visit http:\/\/www.tstc.edu\/campuses\/fort_bend\/.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Romana Medina may have been raised in a small Texas town, but this student recruiter is helping Texas State Technical College students in Fort Bend County achieve their big city dreams.
